As our Visual Designer, you will be responsible for providing a full creative graphic and digital design service to support marketing of the company’s products, services and capabilities.
You will work closely with the Vocational Qualifications Marketing team in Workforce Skills, coordinating your design workflow, delivering design solutions and direction personally and allocating briefs to a range of rostered freelance design providers.
This role requires a reliable individual with strong creative flair and attention to detail with excellent technical skills in a wide range of design disciplines, particularly animation and video editing. You will be flexible and responsive, hard-working, organised and able to effectively manage multiple priorities.
We are open to you being on a remote or hybrid contract and full time.
Creative and visual design
- Work directly on creative projects.
- Be accountable for the delivery of design solutions within specified timescales.
- Maintain thorough understanding of current Pearson brand guidelines and support on creative direction, quality and market fit, across the teams’ portfolio of products and services.
- Be a Brand Champion for the upcoming Pearson re-brand project and provide brand design advice and support to the team if/where needed.
- Advocate and adopt accessibility guidelines and user-centric design principles.
- Keep up to date with advances and trends in marketing design and media and ensure standards of design, design services and media are in line with industry standards.
- Content management – maintain files/records/log of briefs and ensure files are archived appropriately.
Commercial effectiveness
- Optimise work turnaround time and quality through use of workflow management system.
- Manage relationships and briefing process with freelance designers/external suppliers when workflow dictates, to ensure deadlines are met. Help to resolve design challenges and optimise design solutions in collaboration with marketing owners.
- Facilitate collaboration with design colleagues and marketing – ensuring collective understanding of business and commercial objectives and implications.
- Keep apprised of competitor marketing activity to ensure relevance, currency, and market fit of design output.
Marketing and Comms Design
- Marketing/Comms collateral and campaign materials – design, creation and production of new branding concepts, brochures, case studies, leaflets, adverts, event collateral, infographics, reports, templates, style guides and any other design requirements.
- Animation and video editing – a strong understanding of post-production and working in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects creating social media and campaign adverts, animated email and web assets, short and long form video, eg. case studies.
- Digital content – design of all digital marketing assets to be used across a variety of digital channels – including websites, social media, paid media, email campaigns and inbound marketing.
- Support external and internal events and exhibitions with design and creation of associated collateral.

- Experience of briefing agencies/freelance resources.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Skilled at taking/refining briefs and understanding requirements.
- Can-do attitude and problem-solver, keen to make things happen at pace, manage expectations, unblock issues and work in an agile manner.
- Excels when working under time-pressure with deadlines.
- Reliable with a flexible approach and willing to learn new tasks.
- Ability to work on own initiative and also within a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients with tact and diplomacy.
- Good written communication skills.
- Experience/knowledge of working within a Marketing team (desirable).
Visual and technical skills
- Great visual design skills (technical competence, accuracy and attention to detail).
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere Pro and After Effects) and a good understanding of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience in creating, designing and editing both prit and digital media for a wide range of target audiences and settings.
